I am wondering if news outlets sometimes use bots to write articles. I've seen in the past articles that looked like they were written by a bot. The sentences didn't make much sense, and it almost looked like gibberish. Are these bots still in use, or are they now doing a much better work, so that you can't discriminate between an article written by a bot, and one written by a human?

I have also seen services aimed at researchers in Academia, that generate random articles: you enter a few keywords, and it will write a fake paper for you. They even claim that some of these papers have been accepted for publication. For instance, the mathgen platform allows you to generate such papers.

More generally, do you think that the task of writing a PhD thesis can be automated, at least to a large extent? Will Harvard accept robots as PhD candidates, one day in the distant future?
