Good afternoon!

I am currently a high school math teacher, with a previous history of working in IT. I am interested in switching careers and becoming a data science, but other than learning a language such as python, I am so overwhelmed about where to start. I guess my question is two fold:

1.) any suggestions on how to get started?

2.) what are your opinions of Ge new micro masters programs created by edx?

Hi Jennifer,

If you are new to data science, you might want to check out these beginner programs from Microsoft and Harvard:

https://www.edx.org/microsoft-professional-program-data-science

https://www.edx.org/professional-certificate/harvardx-data-science

(you can also view more of our data science courses here)

Hope that helps,

Josh from edX

Hi Jennifer,

Well as u said you have experienced in working in IT sector. You want to switch career into data science that's a good thinking because data scientist is now the sexiest job of the 21st century.

Data Science or Data Scientist is all about “using automated methods to analyze massive amounts of data and to extract knowledge from them. The flourishing big data industry has led to the birth of numerous sub-fields in its wake. Data Science is one of them. In fact, data science is one field that has taken the entire IT industry by storm. And now if you are sure about choosing data science as your career then you should go for certifications from reputed bodies like Coursera, Data Science Council of America (DASCA) and Dell EMC, as certifications are third-party validation of your skills.

Hope this information helps you.
