Stumped by Bayes' Theorem? Try This Simple Workaround

Bayes' Theorem formula.

Bayes' Theorem, which The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy calls "...a simple mathematical formula" can be surprisingly difficult to actually solve. If you struggle with Bayesian logic, solving the "simple"…

Deep Learning Explained in 4 Simple Facts

Yesterday, I talked about Machine Learning, and the huge impact it will have in the world in the future. Today, I’d like to talk about a similar paradigm, that often gets mixed up with it, but that is not the same thing at all. I’m talking about Deep learning.

First off, let me say: this topic is vast. In my article, I’ll try to boil down the main facts, but be warned, you should investigate the matter on your own to learn more.

Hope I can set…

IoT’s Purview on Current Environmental Conditions

No matter how latest the technology is, it is often blamed responsible for the current environmental issues from internal engine combustion to electronic wastes. Typically, we don't associate high-end technologies with environmental sustainability. However, in the right hands and right applicability, technologies like AI and IoT hold great potential…

K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN): Solving Classification Problems

In this tutorial, we are going to use the K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) algorithm to solve a classification problem. Firstly, what exactly do we mean by classification?

Classification across a variable means that results are categorised into a particular group. e.g. classifying a fruit as either an apple or an orange.

The KNN algorithm is one the most basic, yet most commonly used…

Studying Risk-based Algomorphology Using Thunderbird Charts

I recently wrote about a stock trading approach that I call skipjack: it allows the user to trade directly from special charts by exploiting skipjack waveforms and formations.  I mentioned that I use an application - a simulation environment - to trade from these charts.  Below I present a screenshot of SimTactics, the application that I created to support this simulated trading.  To the right is a notepad containing four trades generated by an autopilot…

MicroMasters: The Fast Way to Get Into Data Science

If the prospect of earning a masters degree in data science sounds too daunting (and expensive), then a MicroMasters  might be a good fit for you. A MicroMasters is a "mini" masters degree, typically comprised of four courses. The courses are offered at a fraction of the cost of a typical masters program (around a tenth of the cost), so are a great way to wet your feet and see if data science is right for you.

I'm actually enrolled in the MIT MicroMasters program…
