DSC Webinar Series: Visual Storytelling in the Age of Data 1.7.2014

  • Sean Welch

Facts that are reported in the media are increasingly based on numbers. These lend themselves not only to visualization, but also to exploration by readers. Creating compelling stories around data is not an easy task and there is the danger of simply creating a visualization that leaves all the work to the reader.

In this webinar you see a variety of examples of great visual storytelling done in news media like The New York Times and The Washington Post, and look at some of the strategies used by journalists, as well as how visualization research might inform their work in the future. The goal is to build a bridge between the usually disconnected worlds of visual analysis and visual communication, and figure out how the two can benefit each other.
