Data Mining vs Statistics in One Picture

Data mining includes statistics and elements of statistical analysis.  Some people describe the two as interconnected, others as them being on a continuum. This one picture shows an overview of how statistics and data mining can be viewed as both: connected entities and as a flow from one field to the other.

most methods in the middle circle are in statistics and is useful for data mining. I ,a statistician, had taught data mining and think that data mining is less statistical and mathematical concepts and methods and is invented by computer scientists who do not like or do not have much background on math and stat. Or I can say data mining is  the realization of  our way of thinking.
