A precomputed <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K-d_tree" target="_blank">k-d tree</a> (which can be compared to computing the cliques) can be used to find nearest neighbours in logarithmic time. The downside is that the efficiency drops in higher dimensions.</p>
