Former professor of Plant Ecology and Quantitative Ecology at the National Polytechnic Institute of Mexico (1981-2002). Director General for Environmental Information and Statistics at the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources of Mexico (2002 - 2006). Regional Coordinator for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Division of Early Warning and Assessment of the United Nations Environment Programme (2006-2007). Independent consultant on environmental and statistical matters (2007-2008). Natural Resources advisor and Environmental Officer at the office in Mexico of the US Agency for International Development (2009-2017). Project director of UNSD's "Natural capital accounting and valuation of ecosystem services in Mexico" project (2017-2019).
Author of tens of scientific papers and book chapters, his field of interest is vegetation ecology and land-use change, the statistical analysis and mathematical modelling of biological phenomena, and the production and dissemination of environmental data, indicators and reports.
