In today’s business world, fast, efficient data analysis is crucial. However, traditional, proprietary data warehouses can be expensive and difficult to operate.
MariaDB, the company behind the fastest growing open source database, recently released a new version of MariaDB AX, now based on MariaDB ColumnStore 1.1, a distributed and columnar storage engine for high-performance analytics at scale. MariaDB AX introduces simplified data ingestion via data adapters, semi-structured/unstructured data analysis via text and binary columns, and custom analytical functions via a user-defined aggregate/window API.
MariaDB AX provides these new features and more:
- Bulk data adapters: Write data directly to MariaDB AX storage nodes from any C++, Python or Java application for simple, high-throughput data ingestion.
- Streaming data adapters: Analyze near-real-time data by ingesting data from MariaDB MaxScale change-data-capture streams or Apache Kafka messages.
- User-defined aggregate/window functions: Create custom analytical functions executed where the data is, concurrently on multiple storage nodes – and with TEXT/BLOB now supported, analyze semi-structured and unstructured data.
- Support for GlusterFS: Replicate files within a volume for high availability; includes a new backup tool for easier backup and restore operations.
