Hi all - question for you:
What is the best open data source with direct raw data access for global climate data, with http, FTP or api links directly to data, global coverage down to country or county/state for last century?
Specifically, there are loads of great questions on forums out there, eg. quora on open data & climate data, however none have direct links to the data, and in general none seem to have good global coverage, eg when you eventually find data it is USA only.
Just to restate:
* direct http/ftp or api access (links)
* global coverage of at least temperature down to country or county/state
* coverage for the last century or more
* bonus: updating regularly.
Ideally, I’d like to be able to connect directly to the data via Python in a Jupyter notebook & start working with it - eg. like the ease of working with Kaggle data. There is a wealth of data out there, but it is not very accessible for someone starting out. Once I have this data, I’d like to be able to work/correlate with other similar open data sources, eg. global finance/exchange data, global economic data, global migration stats etc.
The goal is to build interactive dashboards linking this data together at the outset, and eventually use for data science learning.
For bonus points: what is best the place/forum for discussion of topics like these?
You didn't specify what type(s) of climate change data you are interested in. I doubt that you will find a single data set with global coverage for 100 years. Here are a few sources you might want to check:
Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Center This data is in the process of moving to different sites.
These are just a few examples. Check EPA, NOAA, NASA, USGS, etc websites.
