UV and Sun exposure good to protect you against skin cancer, says data science

Despite popular knowledge claiming the contrary. This is another example of a root cause analysis problem solved by real scientists, debunking the myth that melanoma (skin cancer) is caused by the sun, and that therefore, you should wear dark glasses and strong sunscreen when in sunny locales.

I don't know if this study is valid, or influenced by conflicts of interest, but it definitely looks very interesting and real. Some of the insights are

  • The sun generates two types of UV's: UVA and UVB. No UVB's means no vitamin D. Vitamin D protects you (to some extent) against cancer. So UVB's might actually be good.
  • People in cloudy locales (or working in a cubicle rather than outdoors) , are at higher risk of skin cancer (not sure if this is a causal relationship or influenced by an external factor - like more white people live in cloudy locales or in cubicles, and their skin is more sensitive)
  • Cell phones and other devices emitting electro-magnetic radiations may interfere (probably negatively) with our electro-magnetic system powering the brain, heart etc. 
  • Strong sunscreens will stop not only UVA's, but sadly, also UVB's.
  • Too much sun and too many sunburns occurring when being a child is actually bad and increases the risk of cancer, especially for white people with blue eyes / blond hair
  • The ideal solution is the right balance: not too little sun exposure, not too much

I found this study, produced by the Arizona Center for Advanced Medicine, worth sharing, and indeed, maybe worth being called data science. What do you think about these controversial conclusions?
