Hello, I am transitioning to Data Science after being an aerospace engineer for about 10 years. I am getting a masters in CS at Georgia Tech and am going to concentrate on statistics, algorithms and machine learning. I also am planning on doing some Kaggle competitions and getting a summer internship. Any other suggestions you have to become a data scientist would be much appreciated!
With your background, jobs associated with operations research, supply chain optimization, or simulations, could be an easy transition. Aerospace companies also hire data scientists. FinTech companies is another option, as they routinely hire mechanical engineers to eventually work as data scientists (known as quants.)
