All too often we see critical data dumped into a “Data Lake” causing the data waters to stagnate and become a “Data Swamp”. We have found that many data transformation, quality, and security processes can be addressed a priori on ingest to enhance goodness and improve accessibility to the data. Data can still be stored in raw form if desired but this processing on ingest can unlock operational effectiveness and competitive advantage by integrating fresh and historical data and enable the full potential of the data. We will discuss the underpinnings of heterogeneous computing architectures – especially GPU/CPU/FPGA systems, their use as low-latency / high-throughput stream processing engines as they relate to real-time requirements, review business use cases unlocked with these architectures, and explore future applications.
Ronald S. Indeck, PhD, President and CTO of VelociData and a Director and Founder of Exegy, Inc., both spinouts from Washington University. From 1988 to 2009 he was in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Washington University where he was the Das Family Distinguished Professor and Director of the Center for Security Technologies. Dr. Indeck has published more than 50 peer reviewed technical papers and been awarded more than thirty patents. He has received many awards including the Presidential Young Investigator Award from President Bush and the Bar Association Inventor of the Year. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and active in many other professional organizations.
