- Dr. Zijian Zheng joined Microsoft in 2003. Currently, he is the Principal Development Manager of the Data Mining group in Bing that he created from scratch and grew to over 50 people. He lead the group on developing techniques (including data mining, data analysis, statistics, BI, online experimentation, etc.) and large scale platforms as well as providing data services for Bing and OSD (Online Service Division) to support its data driven decision making process and development. Zijian has B.E. and M.E. in CS from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics in 1984 and 1987, and then a CS PhD in Machine Learning from the University of Sydney in 1996. He worked for 3 years as a senior research fellow at Deakin University, Australia in the areas of machine learning and data mining. In 1999, Zijian moved to industry, started practical data mining/analysis and software development in the areas of CRM, ecommerce, e-metrics, BI, CI, user modeling, and search. He worked at Blue Martini software and Amazon.com. In addition to data mining development and practice, Zijian is also very active in research in the related areas. He has six patents and nine pending patent applications. He published over 30 papers in international journals and conferences in the areas of Machine Learning, Data Mining, and AI. He has been serving program committees of the key international conferences of the areas including ACM SIGKDD, WWW, ICDM, WSDM, etc.
