Being a Data Science Contractor - UK: How to find work?

Hello,

Being a Data Science Contractor, how do you usually look for work?

What channels/sites/job boards/ do you use?

Do you go for events / Meetups?

Thanks,

Fabiola

Fabiola, there are many ways for you to market your services.  A few that you should try include: 1) identifying data science managers/directors in targeted companies, 2) attending and becoming involved in data science user groups, and 3) attending DS conferences. For #1, social media (e.g., LinkedIn) can be an excellent source of names, emails and even telephone numbers.  For #2, not only attend DS user group meetings, also volunteer on their boards and make presentations to groups. For #3, these can be expensive to attend but they can be very effective. Once you find buyers, you can use traditional consultant sales and new sales principles to win clients. If these tactics do not work, then you may want to join a DS consulting group and use them to understand how to market your services.  HTH.

Also, you don't need to focus on the UK market exclusively. You should target US too. When I was consulting (located in US) I had clients in Israel and Australia. Much of the job - even for local California clients - was performed remotely.
